(South) Omotic does not show diagnostic Afro-Asiatic features (Hayward, Richard J. 2004), (Bender, Lionel M. 2000), (Bender, M. Lionel 2003), (Theil, Rolf 2007), (Lionel M. Bender 2010), and is therefore excluded until such features can be shown. The Mao languages (Hozo, Seze, Bambeshi and Ganza) have not yet been shown to be (North or South) Omotic in morphology and/or core vocabulary, though there are some resemblances with North Omotic (Bender, Lionel M. 1975), (Bender, M. Lionel. 1985), (Bender, Lionel M. 2000), (Bender, Lionel M. 1975), (Lionel M. Bender 2010). The evidence for the coherence of North and South Omotic (= Ari-Banna) (Hayward, Richard J. and Tsuge, Yoichi 1998), (Fleming, Harold C. 1992), (Fleming, Harold and Lewis, Herbert 1961), (Fleming, Harold and Lewis, Herbert 1963) is not sufficient (Fleming, Harold C. 1993), (Lamberti, Marcello 1993), (Zaborski, Andrzej 2007), (Lionel M. Bender 2010).
