Retired in ISO 639-3: Split into Sanapaná [spn] and Angaité [aqt]

  • Change request: 2013-013
  • ISO 639-3: sap
  • Name: Sanapaná
  • Reason: split
  • Effective: 2014-02-03

Excerpt from change request document:

Angaité and Sanapaná are different on all of the above criteria. Indeed, the two languages are not mutually intelligible, and there is a clear ethnoliguistic distinction.

The existing code element does not represent a major language. The Sanapaná and Angaité languages are of equal standing in relation to each other and to the other languages of the family. For example, comparing the differences between Angaité and Sanapaná with those between Angaité and Enxet, the classification of the two languages in a single code element is clearly arbitrary.
