Okwanuchu was arguably a real ethno-linguistic identity and the attested Okwanuchu vocabulary represents a distinct Shastan language (closely related to Shasta) with Wintu and Achumawi interferences by aged trilingual informants (cf. Golla, Victor 2011: 94-95 ). I owe this interpretation to Mikhail Zhivlov (pc. 2021).
