The best case for an Eastern Sudanic (of Nilo-Saharan) affilition is Rilly, Claude 2009 , but the comparisons where the meaning of the Meroitic word is known independently, are too few to be convincing, and the comparisons where the meaning of the Meroitic word is not known but inferred from the comparisons, are circular (cf. Tom Güldemann 2018: 281-282 )
Meroitic, an enigmatic poorly attested extinct language of North Sudan, is missing from E16/E17/E18/E19/E20/E21/E22/E23/E24/E25/E26/E27 ( Rilly, Claude 2007 , Rilly, Claude 2003 , Griffith, Francis Llewellyn 1909 , Rowan, Kirsty 2006 ).
