Many question marks remain as to the dialectal/linguistic diversity within Northern Totonacan languages, but at least Coahuitlán Totonac, documented by Devin Moore 2016 appears to be more distant from other Northern Totonacan varieties with separate ISO 639-3 codes (Apapantilla Totonac [too], Upper Necaxa Totonac [tku] and Tecpatlán Totonac [tcw]), than those are with each other ( Devin Moore 2017 ).
