Both Chaungtha and Yangbye refer to similar varieties within the Rakhine (rki) language. The speakers of these dialects identify themselves as "Rakhine". Wordlists collected on Yangbye island and in Kyauktaw Township share at least 94% lexical similarity with the prestige variety of Rakhine spoken in Sittwe Town.
